Valpolicella Wines Meet Alta Badia
Summer in the mountains is a must during the week of the Italian Ferragosto holiday.
As summers become increasingly hot, Italians are more and more drawn, after a seaside holiday, to spending a few days enjoying the cool air of the Dolomites.
Here, red wines seem to find a whole new dimension.
Alta Badia in summer is one of those much-loved destinations in August: green mountains, crisp air, trails winding through the Dolomites, and that wonderful feeling of being suspended in time, far from the rush of everyday life.
And it is right here, in La Villa, that today I am bringing a little piece of my Valpolicella.
The appointment is at Graus – Drinking Pleasures, a shop specializing in premium wines and spirits, in the heart of Alta Badia, in La Villa.
An elegant and welcoming space, created for those who love to discover something more than simply the pleasure of drinking in a bottle: quality, history, terroir and character — or simply for those who enjoy a little mountain shopping and a curious browse through the shelves.
And for me, it is always something special to tell the story of my wines far from my own cellar.
When I describe life at Tenuta Santa Maria Valverde, I am not simply talking about wine. I am talking about our vineyards, our marogne dry-stone walls, our 15 different terroirs, my family’s work, and that ancient, traditional Valpolicella which, even from a distance and with its eyes firmly set on the future, continues to speak through its wines and through time.
Today, these wines will meet the mountains.
Our Valpolicella, Superiore, Ripasso and Amarone will bring with them the aromas, history and memories of a land different from the Dolomites, yet equally deeply connected to the Italian culture of landscape and hospitality.
I like to think that wine has precisely this power: to bring different places into dialogue and create new stories around a table, a glass, a meeting.
Summer in the mountains is made of walks, breathtaking views, silence and wonderful discoveries.
Today, in Alta Badia, we are adding a little Valpolicella to the mix.
And once again, I am happy to be there personally to tell its story.
